The Energiehal had an area of 6000 m². The Energiehal was built for the E55 exhibition, which was held in Rotterdam from May to September 1955. This exhibition took place in the Dijkzigt district, where the Medical Faculty of Erasmus University is located now.
After the exhibition, the Energiehal was moved to the Blijdorp polder, near the Kleinpolderplein, and served as a sports hall for many years. In the 1990s, large hardcore parties were held in the Energiehal almost every month. Some of the major events held there include A Nightmare in Rotterdam, Terrordome, Megarave, Eurorave, Raver's Night. The Energiehal was known in the hardcore scene for its very high-quality sound system. The last rave was held on Queen's Day, April 30, 1999.
