Gasthuis 79, Wolfshuis: Van Tienhovenmolen
The windmill of Wolfshuis (since 1855) is the only windmill in the Netherlands that is built from marl stone, the natural building material from the area. Only the narrow upper part is made of brick, and there is a reason for that: this was added in 1923 after the mill had burned down. The masonry was necessary to fit the cap and the sail, which came from another mill, onto the body.
What is unique about this mill is that it is the only windmill in the Netherlands largely built of marl stones. On the facade of the front structure, there is a remarkable stone cross. It is a murder cross from 1417, which originates from a nearby almshouse that used to be in the eponymous hamlet.
