Libeek 27, Libeek (Sint Geertruid): Hoeve Libeek
Hoeve Libeek is now part of a large closed farm to the west of the eponymous hamlet. It is situated on the slope of a large agricultural complex. It is possible that it originally had a moat, of which the still existing pond could be a remnant. The building still contains sixteenth-century shooting holes with a round opening, from which it was possible to shoot along the facades.
Castle Libeek was a knightly house in the lordship of Eijsden. The oldest mention as 'chastel libois' or fortified house dates back to 1286, when it fell into the hands of the Duke of Brabant during the Limburg succession war. The house has long acted as a farm.
Libeek is now a closed farm with the entrance on the southwest side. On the east side of the courtyard is the rectangular, quite tall mansion. The service wing adjoining the north side may date from the second half of the eighteenth century. The other wings around the courtyard are from the nineteenth century.
