This well served as a water supply for the workers who had to lay out the forest in the 1930s, during the crisis period. Turning over the heath, digging ditches, laying roads and paths, and planting trees was hard work. Many unemployed people were used for this as part of the work creation scheme. Later, riders could let their horses drink here. The water is now at a depth of about four meters and is still clean, as long as no trash is thrown in.
