Saint Pancratius Church, Kerkplein 1 Mesch
The Sint Pancratius church is well worth a visit. The oldest parts, the nave with the first three windows, probably date from the 9th or 10th century. The opus spicatum, the herringbone band (see photo), in the outer wall, testifies to this, which is unique in the Netherlands. The beautiful Sint Pancratius church, located on the Pelgrimspad and the Pieterpad, is one of the oldest stone buildings in the Netherlands and the oldest church in Limburg. Saint Pancratius is one of the three ice saints. The other two are Saint Servatius and Saint Boniface. With August fair it was customary to venerate the relics of Saint Pancratius. He was mainly called upon for help with teething problems, but also with gout, rheumatism and eczema.
