Tower mill of Gronsveld, Bronckweg Maastricht
This mill is geographically a special case: although it has been located on Maastricht territory since the border correction of 1970 (formerly the municipality of Gronsveld), it is still referred to as the Tower mill of Gronsveld. It is the southernmost windmill in the Netherlands. Because this type of mill is rare today, the Tower mill of Gronsveld has been placed on the Top 100 monuments list. The mill was built on the orders of the Count of Bronckhorst between 1618 and 1623. The earthworks surrounding the mill were constructed in 1766. During World War II, the mill was burned down after a shell hit. The current appearance of the mill is thanks to restorations in 1959 and 1972. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, the mill is open for viewing.
