As early as the beginning of the 15th century there was talk of a castle and in 1629 it was recognized as a Knight's Court City. The original castle was demolished at the end of the 18th century, after which a new manor house was built on the same site. It fell victim to the flames in 1906, but was rebuilt. Over the centuries and to this day, the house changed hands regularly. The beautiful park and garden were laid out at the end of the 18th century by the well-known landscape architects J.G. Michaël and J.D. Zocher Jr. The current landowner, the Forestry Commission, started restoring the park in 2007. In 2016, the house was renovated and converted into a hotel-restaurant.
