On 25 October 1944, the people of Moergestel looked in the same direction as Sir Collin Barber does now: looking eastwards, because the liberators were supposed to come from Oirschot.
But before General Barber, whose image was immortalized in bronze by Hans van Brunschot, could reach the other bank of the Reusel and with it the village with his 15th Scottish Division, an emergency bridge had to be built. The Germans had blown up the cross-river crossing before their retreat. At this place, the liberators were overtaken with cheers.
Every year around October 25, a commemoration is held here and those who gave their lives are remembered.
