Dutch Reformed Church Eemnes

Description

The Dutch Reformed Church is the oldest surviving church building of the three BEL congregations. In 1352 Eemnes received city rights and permission to build a stone church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The church was completed around 1382. In 1481 the church was looted and set on fire. In the church there is a sign that reminds us of this disaster. On December 12, 1481, 72 people were killed by the passing, plundering and murdering French. Thanks to the detective spirit of members of the Historische Kring Eemnes, the church got a new sign. The old had been lost. The text on the new sign was applied by a member of the Historische Kring Eemnes, Bep (G.L.) De Boer from Laren. On December 12, 1981, 500 years after the disaster, the sign was handed over to the church council. In 1521, the tower took on its current form. The church did not take its current form until the beginning of the 17th century, after the Spaniards destroyed the church in 1574. In 1580 the church was converted to the "Reformed religion" and is still the Dutch Reformed Church of Eemnes.
In the church there are also three wall plates, namely: the Apostles' Creed from 1612, the Ten Commandments from 1607 and the Last Supper from 1797.
