Once upon a time, there was a tower on this spot that served as a Roman watchtower at a strategic location along the 'Via Belgica'.
This national monument has survived many generations, survived fires and wars, but nevertheless shines like never before on top of the hilltops of the Limburg hills.
The church was first mentioned in 1145, but has existed for longer, as you can see from the early medieval Romanesque style. Over the centuries, the church was regularly rebuilt and therefore changed its style regularly.
However, the renovation at the beginning of the twentieth century has brought back the original appearance. The church is located at the highest point of Klimmen.
