The Urmond Standerdmolen was built in the French Period by order of Egidius Bauduin, married to Anna Elisabeth Jorissen, a daughter of an old and distinguished Urmond family. Egidius or Gilles Bauduin was a wealthy shipowner in his time, who had a lot of prestige in Urmond. For centuries, Urmond was an important port on the Meuse. The name comes from the "standerd", the vertical spindle, through which the entire mill house, including the sails, can be rotated. The windmill is set to the wind around this stand.
