Park Gravenrode

In recent years, the former mining area on the border of Kerkrade and Landgraaf has been transformed into a tourist gem: Park Gravenrode.
This beautiful green area has a surprisingly varied landscape, with forests, streams, a real reservoir, farms and castles. In 2009, Park Gravenrode won the Eden Award, which crowned the area as the most sustainable tourist destination in the Netherlands.

Park Gravenrode is formed by the Anstelerbeek valley in Kerkrade and the Strijthagerbeek valley in Landgraaf. Both valleys have steep, wooded slopes.
The less steep slopes are mainly used as grassland and arable land. Strijthagen Castle (Landgraaf) and Erenstein Castle (Kerkrade) are striking monuments in the landscape.

You will also find several beautiful farms in Park Gravenrode: the Winselerhof, the Overste Hof, Nieuw-Ehrenstein and the Brughof. During a walking or cycling trip you can take a break here and enjoy a snack and a drink. On the edges of Park Gravenrode are attractions such as GaiaZOO, Discovery Museum, SnowWorld and Mondo Verde.
