Westernmost point of Germany

At The Narrowest Piece of the Netherlands, precisely between the Maas and the Rhine, lies the most western point of Germany on the 51st latitude.
This point is located in the Selfkant region, characterized by idyllic stream valleys and picturesque river and marsh forests with countless cycling and walking paths. Selfkant, along with List on Sylt in the north, Oberstdorf in the south, and Görlitz in the east, belongs to the so-called 'Zipfelgemeinden', a union of four municipalities located in the four extreme corners of Germany.
The area has alternated between German and Dutch territory until 1963, after which it remained German territory. Around the special border stone, an attractive stay-and-recreation area has been created.
Information boards with interesting facts about the region provide for an active excursion. And here is also the Narrowest Piece of the Netherlands located. The Netherlands is so narrow here that Belgium and Germany almost touch each other, only 4.8 kilometers apart!
