Fort Voordorp is part of the New Dutch Water Line that lies between Utrecht and De Bilt. The fort was built in the period 1867-1871 east of Utrecht.
As a result of the progress in artillery and explosives, the circle of forts that had been built around Utrecht in the 20s of the 19th century had become outdated, and in the seventies of the 19th century a new forward circle of forts was built around the city, including Fort Voordorp.
