The view from the edge of the Vijlenerbos is impressive. In the warm morning light, bright autumn colors shine from the trees. Birches, maples and beeches compete with each other for the gaze of the walker. The church of Vijlen – the only mountain village in the Netherlands – does not have to participate in this battle. It towers mightily above the surrounding landscape and is therefore not to be missed. From a bench you can take in the awakening of the day in peace, including an incessant free bird concert in the background.
