The burial mounds near Lunteren mostly date from the Middle Bronze Age (around 1800-1100 BC) and are protected as a national archaeological monument.
Burial mounds are important because they contain many interesting finds, such as metal ornaments, urns, buried animals, and utensils. Even in our time, new burial mounds are still being discovered in the Veluwe. The burial mounds in this area were discovered around 1930. An important figure who contributed to the research on the burial mounds of Lunteren is Captain Bellen, an amateur archaeologist who conducted a lot of research around Lunteren in the 1920s and 1930s.
