The Sittard City Park, which was created in 1920 by landscape architect Versteeg on the marshy banks of the Geleenbeek, is a beautiful stretch of nature in Sittard. It forms the connection between Geleen and Sittard, also known as the Geleenbeek valley. It is worth walking further into the park towards the ‘Stenen Sluis’ and the branching of a mill stream. This branch runs through the center of Sittard but is covered there.
It supplied, among other things, the watermill that used to be located at the site of the current shopping center De Tempel in the center of Sittard. A special tip in the city park is the Urban Play Forest Sjabolleke. Located on Molenweg, right next to the monumental city park of Sittard, this urban play forest offers an adventurous piece of forest where children can climb and scramble to their heart's content. Free access.
