The artwork was unveiled on 25 March 2014 by Mayor Nol Kleijngeld on the site where the train station used to be. It depicts a mother and child waving goodbye to their husband and father at the station. Father takes the train to sell shoes in the big city. The statue is a lasting reminder of Waalwijk's past with the shoe and leather industry.
