The row of houses in the bend of the Vecht between Loenen and Vreeland is called the Glashut. The name recalls the glass factory that stood here in the late 19th century, near the estate of Oostervecht. Bottles were made here for breweries and distilleries in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. The Glashut consists of houses that were specially built for factory workers, quite a luxury at the time! Since the workers often came from Germany, the name 'Glashutte' was used, which means glass oven. Around 1970, the houses were partly combined and restored.
