Description

The pimpernel blue (small butterfly) needs an environment where the pimpernel (plant) grows and where there is a certain species of ant in the soil.

The blue lays eggs on the large pimpernel, when they hatch the caterpillar is appreciated by the ants because of a sweet substance on the back and taken to the nest but the caterpillar eats the young ants in the nest like a parasite.
The large bee meadow is therefore forbidden to hikers because they trample the pimpernel but also ant nests and thus the caterpillars.
