Sandstone block Rozenhof

At Camping Rozenhof, hikers are treated to a beautiful view over the Geul valley. Hikers here look out over a 5-star landscape, officially awarded by the Ministry of Nature and the Environment. On the terrace of the campsite, hikers can see a huge stone. Guess how much this stone weighs? This whopper counts 14,045 kilos!

It is a sandstone block that broke off from a rock layer in South Limburg when the Alps were formed and carried here by the Meuse on ice floes. These kinds of immense boulders can be found throughout Europe and they have been used in other places for prehistoric constructions such as the dolmens and Stonehenge.
