Scaffolding saws

It was a primitive, time-consuming and strenuous way to cut planks out of a tree trunk. One man stood on top of the trunk that had been laid on a scaffolding, the other stood below it. Together they operated the large saw. Of a lot of work that had to be done, you can say that it was heavy. It was the time of "plodding as long as it is light".
Pictures of dishes were not so much an indictment of the harsh conditions, although you would expect that from a communist as he might expect, he mainly wanted to show the beauty of the work in his etchings.
