Our Lady's Chapel

Our Lady's Chapel, Peace Chapel Schinnen or Chapel for Our Lady Queen of Peace. The chapel is located on the western top of the Krekelberg and is located about 200 meters southeast of St. Dionysius' Church.

In Schinnen there are two other Lady Chapels. Since 1999, the chapel with St. Mary's Park has had the status a national monument and is dedicated to Mary Queen of Peace.

In 1939 the chapel and the park were commissioned by the church council of Schinnen and then initiated. The architect was H.H.A. Tummers from Heerlen. The chapel was built just before the outbreak of World War II.

The chapel stands atop the top of the tree-covered hill. She is Accessible via a staircase and a circular walk from the Schinnen-Thull road at the foot of the hill. At the bottom of the hill there is an entrance arch with in it the text 'Mariapark'.

Both outside the chapel and inside the chapel there are a number of rows of benches. The brick chapel is built in traditionalist style. The chapel consists of a rectangular nave with a gable/spout and a recessed broken gable roof and a slightly narrower but Taller tower-shaped choir with a tent roof.

The pointed arch windows have natural stone keystones and latticework. The side walls of the nave and the four Facades of the choir have a block-toothed cornice.
