BAARLE-NASSAU - On the Belgian-Dutch border on Thursday afternoon (7/12/17) a cyclist was killed in Baarle-Nassau.
The cyclist was caught by a truck while crossing the Turnhoutseweg. The victim is an 85-year-old resident of Baarle-Nassau. The accident happened on Dutch territory. The victim died at the scene.
Around 13:00, the man wanted to cross the Turnhoutseweg – Schaluinen intersection on his bicycle. Apparently, he overlooked a truck that had approached a few meters after the intersection.
Witnesses saw the man in front of the truck drive onto the road and was hit by a car. The victim was in an immediate serious condition and despite resuscitation attempts by the ambulance staff who rushed to the scene, he died of his injuries a short time later.
