Preston Palace is a former hospital in Almelo, which has been converted into an all-inclusive resort with a nightlife center. The name is derived from Almelo's partner municipality Preston in the United Kingdom. The vacant Prinses Irene Hospital, which was destined for demolition, was sold by the municipality of Almelo to entrepreneur Hennie van der Most in 1987. The nightlife center opened in May 1990, and the hotel-restaurant followed in 1992. A swimming pool with a sauna complex and a hall full of fairground attractions were also added in 1997. The hotel has nearly 1000 beds. The company operates on an all-inclusive basis. With about 500 employees, the enterprise is one of the largest employers in Twente.
