Originally, the house was a farm called Heidenoord, built in 1832. An Amsterdam banker, Johannes Stoop, founded a school there in 1834, which later became an agricultural school.
The name de Beaufort was linked to the house because Stoop's only daughter married Arnoud Jan de Beaufort (heir of Landgoed Den Treek in Leusden). They expanded the building with a church for the inhabitants of Austerlitz. Until 1984 church services of the Ned. Rev. Church. It is now used as a music venue and theatre café and has been called 'The Beaufort House' since 1989.
