It is a round stone tower mill that was built in 1786, replacing an earlier post mill that had been blown over. In 1858 a steam engine was installed in the shed next to the mill, which could be used for grinding in windless periods.
In 1921 the milling on the wind was stopped. The mill was dismantled and the parts were sold. At the end of the Second World War, Standdaarbuiten came under fire. The mill hull was hit by shells, after which it was truncated down to the grinding loft. The hull fell into disrepair until 2008 when a foundation was set up to preserve the hull, where it functions as an exhibition space and workspace for all kinds of creative workshops and courses. The mill has nesting boxes in which swifts can nest. Thanks to small cameras in the nesting boxes, you can see what is happening there.
