The riverbank between the Waal and the Vossegat has become overgrown with forest since the late 1980s. In 1995, the young trees were largely swept away by the major flooding that year. The forest on the riverbank is slowly becoming a hardwood floodplain forest. In addition to softwood trees such as willows and black poplars, there are also increasing numbers of pedunculate oaks, summer linden trees, rough-leaved elms, ashes, and other trees. In the undergrowth, rare plants can be found such as broad-leaved speedwell and field cress.
