We owe this swamp to clay mining. Clay has been excavated and used to make bricks. What was left behind is overgrown with reeds and willows. In some years, bluethroats sing in the spring. They are hard to see, but just the sound, complemented by the sound of green frogs, cuckoo, reed bunting and bush warbler is already fantastic to hear.
