St. George's Church is a Protestant church of the Dutch Reformed Church in Hoedekenskerke.
A first church was probably built shortly after 1280 when the parish was founded. Excavations determined that the original church was much larger than the original one.
The current church was built in a variant of the Gothic architectural style, the so-called Scheldt Gothic, around 1420-1430. The 15th-century church building was dedicated to Gregory (or George).
After the collapse of the nave and tower in 1782, they were not rebuilt and the bricks were reused for the wall of the smaller chancel, on top of which a turret was added.
During the Battle of the Scheldt in World War II, the church suffered heavy damage. Among other things, the turret, used as a watchtower by the German occupying forces, was almost completely shot away by the British.
In 1948-1949 the badly damaged church was restored under the supervision of monument conservation. The original colours of the vault were restored and the dark brown benches were given a green colour.
