The clog maker's village of Liempde was part of an independent seigneury as early as the 14th century. The well-preserved Liempde has no less than 30 buildings on the monument list. They range from impressive long-gable farmhouses to humble farm workers' cottages. Many old customs are also honored such as: the annual fraternization party with the new residents, a fire is lit in the brazier at the 200-year-old town hall. When a child is born, the father rings the bell in the dome of the town hall and on the last Sunday of March there has been the folkloric "boerenmert" since time immemorial.
