In the spring you can see many species of meadow birds in the meadows along the Twelve Morning, including the godwit. On the wet stretch of lake in the east, more than a thousand godwits can sometimes be seen in early spring. They have just finished the long journey from the south and are feasting on the worms along the banks and damp meadows. These meadow birds sleep on the puddles because they are safer from predators there.
