The Work on the Korte Uitweg is part of the New Dutch Waterline and was built between 1873 and 1879. The Werk aan de Korte Uitweg is located 1000 meters north of Fort Honswijk and is part of the Defence Line of Honswijk.
The fort initially consisted of a moat surrounded by an earthen wall. In 1877 a bomb-proof barracks, a shed, an ammunition magazine and a fort keeper's house appeared outside the moat. The building was completed in 1879. The fort had room for 160 soldiers.
