Description

The Tolhuissluis is the lock that connects the Amstel-Drecht Canal with the Drecht and the Aar Canal. The lock was built in 1823 on the initiative of William I, as part of making the Amstel, Drecht and Aarkanaal navigable for large ships. The lock replaced the locks at the Bilderdam and at the Kattenbrug. The lock bridges the gradient between the Rijnland and Amstelland Water Boards.
