Description

The subsoil of the area around the Kromme Mijdrecht consists of marine sediments deposited in a salt marsh environment. After the influence of the sea disappeared because the beach walls on the coast grew together about 4,000 years ago, the creek systems landed and peat growth began to take off. The Kromme Mijdrecht was created as a drainage stream after the period of peat development.

Dewatering and partial excavation of the peat has taken place in the area. As a result of the encroachment of the surrounding land, the current course of the Kromme Mijdrecht is about 1.5 to 2 meters higher in the landscape.

The Kromme Mijdrecht and surroundings is a fairly cool and representative peat basin. It is therefore a geographically valuable area.
