After the dikes were built, various farmers, farm workers and craftsmen settled on the dike. The houses and farms are built on the inside of the dike. The extensive ribbon of buildings with several old farms is still clearly visible. One of these farms is Rustenburg near Everdingen. The name of this farm is carved above the entrance. The building is a good example of a cross house farm or stool house farm, where the living area is built across the business area. The front house (the living part of the farm) was probably built at the end of the 16th century or at the beginning of the 17th century. In 1782 the farm was extensively rebuilt and dated. For example, the walls have been raised, so that the attic can also be used as a floor, and a new stable has been built.
