The windmill De Havik in Grootschermer was built in 1576 to drain the Eilandspolder. In 1861 the mill was moved from the Delft near De Rijp to its current location. After a steam pumping station pumped the water out of the polder in 1874 on the site where De Havik used to be, De Havik was converted into a home.
The mill was last extensively restored in 1964. Since 1978, the mill has been running sometimes. The mill is privately owned and cannot be visited.
At the mill you have a magnificent view of both the Eilandspolder and the Schermer polder.
