The current church was built in 1926 on the Kerkeiland surrounded by the old outer moat. On the site of the church and garden stood the castle Saterslo 800 years ago.
On December 20, 1266 it is written that the Saterslo family has a castle in this neighborhood. The house is first mentioned in 1361 when the Utrecht Bishop had a blockhouse built to besiege Saasveld Castle. Whether both were actually demolished or a new house was built is unclear. In 1361 the house was dedicated in fief to the bishop of Utrecht. In 1510 a fire broke out and the house fell into ruin. Immediately after the looting and fire, Adriaan van Reede had a new house built in 1514. In 1523 the house was partly destroyed. The house was repaired again. In 1818 the house was demolished. Then a church was built.
