The Hofstede Batenstein, that is the official name of the farm in Brediuspark. A bit of history: it was built more than 150 years ago – in 1852 to be exact – by Cornelis Bredius. You could only reach it via an access road from the Oudelandseweg. In the winter, a farmer lived there, but in the summer, the Bredius family came, and the farmer had to temporarily stay in the adjacent summer house.
Several families lived in the house in the years that followed, but on March 30, 2008, a fire broke out in the thatched roof of the farm. And since the then-owner did not want to restore it, it fell into disrepair. It wasn't until 2015 that the municipality bought the ruins, and thanks to the Hofstede Batenstein foundation, there are now great plans for the building. At the end of 2020, the restoration began, and in the spring of 2022, the hofstede will be ready. In the spring of 2022, Parkcafé Bredius will open its doors. And with that, the hofstede will regain its old role as a central point in the Bredius estate with a new function. Parkcafé Bredius will be a place where you can take a break.
