Herdenkingspark Westgaarde is a cemetery and crematorium in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The name is derived from what was there before: the western gardens. The main entrance has been at Ookmeerweg at the height of Osdorper Ban since its opening. Westgaarde was developed under the working title Westerhof from around 1963 to 1971 in the Lutkemeer polder. The entire site was designed by the Department of Public Works, specifically architect and engineer Hendrik Jan de Kimpe. It has an almost rectangular layout. Extensive drainage systems had to be installed, as well as a pond for processing all the water. The cemetery also received a ring water system around it.
