The Grevelingendam is a Dutch dam in the sea arm Grevelingen between Schouwen-Duiveland and Goeree-Overflakkee. The dam is the fourth structure of the Delta Works. The construction of the six-kilometer-long dam began in 1958. The dam was partially built with a cableway designed by Rijkswaterstaat together with the French company Neyrpic, which dropped stones from a height at the location where the dam was to be built. Due to various setbacks, the construction of the dam lasted about seven years. On April 1, 1965, the dam was inaugurated by the Minister of Transport and Water Management, Jan van Aartsen.
