The Castle of Opwetten is a former nobleman's house that was located in the Nuenen hamlet of Opwetten.
Traditionally, Nuenen was a duke's village and as such eventually came directly under King Philip II of Spain. In 1558 he sold three lordships to Squire Rutger van Berckel. This concerned the lordships of Nuenen and Gerwen, Nederwetten and Tongelre.
