The Gravensteen is a building from 1526 located at Mol 25 in Zierikzee, built on the orders of the County of Zeeland. The ground floor of the Gravensteen is used by a World Shop. The rest of the building can be visited through guided tours organized by the City Hall Museum Zierikzee.
The Gravensteen was the old legal, financial, and administrative center of the Count of Holland and Zeeland, which later served as the city jail of Zierikzee. In the cell, many drawings have been left on the walls by various prisoners. The cell walls, made of wood, are covered with drawings of soldiers, ships, and inscriptions that narrate the history of the Gravensteen.
