Haamstede Airport is an airfield near Haamstede in the Dutch municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. Officially, the airfield is a designated aerodrome, but only gliders are allowed to take off and land there. Currently, the airfield is used by the glider pilots of Vliegclub Haamstede. In 1931, Haamstede Airport was the first airport to which KLM flew internal scheduled flights from Waalhaven. In 1932 the service was extended to Vlissingen, then to Knokke. This was called the "millionaire's line": rich Rotterdammers took it to the casino. Around 1936, Haamstede Airport was the third largest airport in the Netherlands in terms of transport, after Schiphol Airport and Waalhaven. The line was shut down in 1939 due to the tense situation in the run-up to the Second World War. The service was not resumed after the war.
