The Shipping and Food Canal is a canal in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located to the north of the island of Voorne-Putten between Zwartewaal and Spijkenisse and serves as the connection between the Brielse Meer and the Oude Maas. East of the Hartel Bridge, which crosses the Shipping and Food Canal, the canal has two branches that connect with the Oude Maas: in the northern branch, there is a lock for recreational navigation, and in the southern branch, there is an inlet, Inlet Lock Spijkenisse. The lock has a navigation width of 7.5 meters and a useful lock length of approximately 65 meters, with a maximum of 71 meters. To prevent salinization of the Shipping and Food Canal, the lock is equipped with two centrifugal pumps and corresponding longitudinal and transverse drains, which allow the salty or brackish water from the pool to be pumped back to the Oude Maas and replaced with fresh water from the Brielse Meer.
