Golf course

Description

Fred de Grauw and Jan Haan know each other from the Rotary in Woubrugge and they have been playing a round of golf together every week for several years. Sometime in 2002 it was again sighing and supporting because there was no start time or because it was busy. It is jokingly said: 'If we build our own golf course, we will never have to wait again'. This came to the attention of the mayor and alderman of Woubrugge and a few days later there was a small report in the local newspaper. That was the point where Fred and Jan seriously went to the farm. In the end, it was not possible to realize the plan in the municipality of Woubrugge, due to the fact that there are many meadow birds in the area, and the golf course would pose a threat.

After the ruling of the Province, the alderman of Ter Aar came into the picture. He approached Jan and Fred because the municipality of Liemeer had plans to develop a large recreation area; In addition to a swimming pool, also a golf course, marina and an ice rink. The marina and ice rink never went ahead, but our beautiful golf course did!

At the end of 2003, Winfried Ponsioen joined Fred and Jan to pull the cart together. There are great memories of the negotiations at the kitchen table with Ies Bos, the owner of the area. The member recruitment campaigns were playful: the banner along the A4 (cost: a box of wine), hitting balls in the middle of a Brussels sprout field and, to top it all off, the big recruitment evening in 2005.

At first it seemed like only a handful of people would come. Fortunately, the room was filled with about 350 people ten minutes before the start!

As a result, there were 440 members in June 2006. The development of the track could be started! On July 4, 2006, the first shovel was put in the ground. This happened at the greenkeepers room and in no time the ditch / lake was dug. It seemed to be going very well, but it became a continuous process of compromise; Skipping between what you would like and what was financially possible. Unexpectedly have to take into account applicable regulations. For example, 4 hectares had to be leased to compensate for a piece of bird land. A beautiful memory is the story of the barn owl: the demolition of the old barns was delayed by a barn owl that kept its residence there.

In August 2007 the time has come: you can play on the first 9-holes. And a year later on the second 9-hole! The construction of the clubhouse was made possible by issuing 26 participations and a bank loan.

In short: what once started with a joking remark has become reality!
