The Rottemeren is a system of widening of the river Rotte located between the A12 in the north, Bleiswijk in the west, Zevenhuizen in the east and Oud Verlaat in the south. They are located on the border of the municipalities of Lansingerland and Zuidplas.
The Rottemeren were created when, after the reclamation of the surrounding polders, this water started to function as a high bosom. Due to the compaction and dyeing of the area, the Rotte and the Rottemeren are a lot higher than the polders. On the east side of the Rottemeren is a mill corridor that until 1952 provided the drainage of the polders east of the Rottemeren.
