The Maas Bridge in Wessem is an important North-South connection in the south of the Netherlands. The bridge is part of the A2 motorway and is located between Wessem and Maasbracht. There is also a parallel road for slow traffic on the west side of the bridge. Construction of the bridge began in 1962. The Maasbrug near Wessem was opened to traffic on 22 January 1966, before that the ferry between Wessem and Maasbracht had to be used. Due to the increasing traffic, this situation became problematic, but after the opening of the Maasbrug in 1966 this improved. In 2007 and 2011 the bridge was given a major refurbishment.
