The Grebbeberg is the extreme, southeastern tip of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. For many centuries this has been a place of significance, in countless events and stories. The strategic location, at altitude and on a river, plays a central role in this. As early as 2000 B.C. There would have been fortifications here. In the seventh century, a ring rampart was built a little further on. According to Cunera legend, the jealous queen threw herself off the mountain after it was revealed that she had killed Cunera. And in May 1940, the Grebbeberg, part of the Grebbe Line, was the scene of heavy fighting against the German army for several days. The view from the Grebberg is fantastic. Over time, the Rhine has formed the steep south face of the mountain. It is a bit of a climb, but the reward is a beautiful view of the Betuwe, Rhenen and the Cunera Tower.
