Estate Heerlijkheid Loenen

Description

The origin of the Lordship of Loenen and Loenen Castle is more than a thousand years ago. The estate, over 195 hectares in size, has a rich history. The Loenen house has been destroyed several times. If it wasn't for the knights Van Heeckeren, who were supported by Duke Reinald of Guelders and waged war with the knights of the Bronkhorsten, otherwise it was dike breaches and floods that did their destructive work. Each time, however, Huis Loenen was resurrected.

Approximately on the site of the former castle, which was completely demolished, the present house was built around 1820 by a member of the Von Quadt van Wickeradt family. It was initially intended as a simple hunting lodge. Later, a short wing was added on either side of the house. The tower on the north side was also added at that time. The entrance tower bears a domed crown with a spire. A conservatory on the west side is also part of the ground floor.

From 1927 to 2002 the castle was inhabited by the Van Boetzelaer family. In 2003, the Forestry Commission became the owner of the Heerlijkheid Loenen. In 2006, Jule and Frans Prick-Nijgh bought Loenen Castle. They sold antiques and home accessories in the monumental heritage and operated a B&B.

As of 2016, the buildings were largely empty and the castle was no longer permanently inhabited. That's about to change. Since the beginning of April 2022, Carl and Anita De Groot-Brenters and Bob and Inge Pieterson-Wegereef have been the new owners and managers of Loenen Castle in Slijk-Ewijk, dating from 1826. The Forestry Commission is pleased with the new owners of the leasehold property.

On the estate with the beautiful old orangery, life can be celebrated - just like in earlier days. In the monumental buildings, weddings, receptions, business meetings and meetings are organized by the new owners. From 12 June, guests can also enjoy a Bed & Breakfast package in one of the seven very tastefully decorated rooms.
